Swalwell, Lee, Honda Vote Against GOP Obamacare Fix

CONGRESS | East Bay Reps. Eric Swalwell, Barbara Lee and Mike Honda all voted against legislation sponsored by House Republicans allowing people to renew their cancelled health insurance plans. The bill passed 261-157, with 39 Democrats defying the President's veto warning, including local Reps. Jerry McNerney and John Garamendi.

The Greater East Bay House delegation, however, did not support the bill Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said would effectively "pull the plug" on the Affordable Care Act. The plan led by Rep. Fred Upton (R-Mich.) goes further than the proposed "fix' offered Thursday by President Obama allowing Americans to keep their current existing plans for another year. The House bill, however, also allows insurance companies to continue selling new plans outside federal and state health insurance exchanges.

During an appearance Thursday on KGO's Ronn Owens Show, Swalwell said, "People are angry for good reason. I'm angry." He noted Covered California, the state's own health insurance exchanges is working well. However, it is the federal government Web site, he said, that continues to vex customers and misinform some members of his own district who have confused the national media outcry with California's well-run site. "You can't fix a broken system," he said, "with a broken Web site and a broken promise."

  11. Swalwell won't be able to run against Stark in 2014, no matter how hard he tries. He will find attacking a caring, compassionate, competent women will hurt, rather than help. Ellen Corbett will win because she is a much stronger candidate and won't make the mistakes Stark did. Bye Eric.

  13. Since Eric has authored no significant legislation in Washington, I'll take Ellen Corbett who has authored significant legislation to help the environment, women, consumers, seniors, children, education, etc.

  15. Since Eric has changed his mind on so many issues how can anyone trust what he says or does. I'm a Senior and will be supporting Ellen Corbett in 2014 because I trust her more even though I disagree with her on some issues.

  23. Eric is not running against Stark this time with his irascible temperament and personality. Ellen Corbett is a much more formidable foe and an extremely likable and capable politician. She is very likely to win as she has helped many people in this area over the years. I know our family will be supporting her.

  26. According to the Oct 16 article on the Citizen a large part of Swalwell's contributions came from the medical and pharmaceutical vested interest groups. These are the same groups that have been sticking it to the middle class and poor for years. My family and I will be voting for Ellen Corbett next year.

  28. I actually signed up for Obamacare and it was cheaper for me with a better policy. Even though I agree with this particular vote, I have seen Ellen at more events I go to and will be voting for her next year. I think she has accomplished more for the middle class and poor and I trust her to do more for us than Eric.

  29. Corbett made a BIG MISTAKE, she didn't run against Stark when she knew he was losing it.
She did nothing while in office in San Leandro, but pick out new office furniture for city hall.

She is old news and her time is past.

  30. As far as flip-flopping goes Swalwell taken so many different
positions on so many topics he can't even remember them all.
Just check out the local papers and the ebcitizen. Tavares
even did more than one article on his flip-flops. He told people
he was for the chained CPI, then he was against it. He told
people he was for changes to Social Security, then he was
against them. Not a good track record on consumer bills after
he took corporate money either. Flip-flop Swalwell is his name.

  32. To the anon 7:27 poster----Well what do you know? It's the Swalwell troll, stooge, shill, staffer (pick one cause there's only one). Remember the name Eric " the corrupt flip-flopper" Swalwell if you want to vote for the developers wet dream or the mega-corporations best friend.

If you check the Citizen articles you will find Swalwell not Corbett has been bought and paid for by big business, large corporations, big pharma, etc. I'll take Corbett any day with her outstanding pro-consumer voting record. Go get him Ellen because you have a good chance of winning. Eric only won because people thought Stark was losing it. I also voted for Swalwell, but won't again. He's too inexperienced, corrupt and changes his mind on issues all the time.

If I had a mistake prone boss like yours, I'd try and change the topic too!
