Swalwell Leads Return of Military Marching Bands

Rep. Eric Swalwell in 2012.
CONGRESS | 15TH DISTRICT | An amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act sponsored by Rep. Eric Swalwell and allowing military bands to perform at community events was signed into law by President Obama last Dec. 26.

Swalwell reported the successful inclusion of his amendment in a press release Monday and on Twitter. "Pres.Obama signs bill w my amendment allowing military bands to play again at events like Pleasanton Scottish Games," he wrote on various social media sites.

Sequestration cuts last year forced the U.S. Department of Defense to cut spending for among other things, expenses related to military bands. The policies also forbid military marching bands from performing even when non-government means of funding were located beforehand.

A Marine Corps marching band from San Diego, a routine guest of the games, did not perform at this year’s event, even though funding from the San Francisco-based Caledonian Club was available.

Good job, congressman. Keep up the good work.

We love you in the 15th congressional district and will be turning out strong for you this year. Guess nobody of any importance will dare challenge you.

Good deal!

Cuts the benefits for 1.3 million Americans and then leads a parade. I'll be voting for Ellen Corbett in 2014.

Shame on Swalwell for cutting off benefits for 1.3 million Americans. The extension of federal benefits was started by Bush and continued by both parties when the unemployment rate was this high.

It's about real people, people with families struggling to meet mortgage payments, struggling to put food on the table, to make ends meet, and includes 200,000 military veterans among those folk who are losing their benefits.

A parade really???

This is why my friends and I will be voting for Ellen Corbett this year....she has a heart and cares about the 90% of us who aren't rich too.

Swalwell only cares about the upper class, he can care less about the rest of us. Ellen Corbett cares about the middle class, the consumers, the poor, the teachers, seniors, children and those who aren't in Swalwell's income bracket. That's why she will be elected next year. Ellen has a heart and cares about the rest of us.

Bye Bye Swalwell. How about releasing that poll you took showing you losing to Corbett? You will soon be marching out of Congress. Good riddance.

Good job, congressman. Keep up the good work.

You people are pitiful. NO ONE IS SUPPORTING HER.

Everyone is with our incumbent congressman, including the Democratic party.

YOU PEOPLE are going to get crushed in November and then you'll be saying, 'Wait until 2016. We was robbed!' 2016 will come and go and you'll still be crying for an old hag has-been in 2018, 2020, etc. Truly pathetic.

Get with the train. The Swalwell Express left the station in 2010, and it's not slowing down for anyone else. Get used to it. Even my daughters realize we're lucky to have Eric.

The Dem Party is not with Swalwell, false statement. They haven't endorsed yet and more than likely won't weigh in on this race.

I bet the Tea Party will endorse Swalwell though

Democratic Party is absolutely for our congressman. Pelosi and all the others in congress support him. THEY are the Democratic Party.

Get with it!

You are so wrong ... if Swalwell is going around saying he's endorsed by the Democratic Party then that is dishonest.

Second you trumpet Swalwell because he's supported by Congress? This is the same Congress that has disapproval ratings in the high 60s. Yeah I really want to be associated with that.

I sure hope you are not the Swalwell campaign team. Oh wait maybe I do wish you are.

Jan.8 -3:19, 3:23, and Jan 9- 3:34 is the same Swalwell troll. There is only one of him, but he will post multiple times. You are right, the Alameda County Democratic Central Committee has not endorsed yet in this race. When they do endorse, it will probably be Ellen Corbett. She will most likely be our next Congresswoman after November. I know the people in my area like her a lot.

Democratic Party is absolutely for our congressman. Pelosi and all the others in congress support him. THEY are the Democratic Party.

Get with it!

They are not the Alameda County Democratic Party and if you knew anything about politics you would know that. They will most likely be backing Ellen Corbett according to people who belong to this group that I talk to. This will give Ellen the support she needs to overcome the large amounts of money Swalwell has raised from vested interests. The County Dems. provide the bodies who phone and walk precincts, not the Federal Dems.

The ACDP will do what its parents tell them to do. They will be lock step with our incumbent congressman or they will be relegated to the trash heap of history.

We elected Mr. Swalwell two years ago and he will be re-elected, very easily we might add.

The Alameda County Dems are very progressive and independent. They raise their own money and don't let Feds or Pelosi tell them what to do. It's County electeds, grass root activist Dems and other progressives that run the County Dems. They will vote probably 90% to support Ellen.

After the November election you will be saying Congresswoman Ellen Corbett and Eric who?

Thank you, sir or madam for the following thoughtful comment. My daughters and I will be voting for Mr. Swalwell.

They don't do what Pelosi tells them to even though Swalwell does. If you look at who belongs to the Alameda County Dems and votes for the endorsements you will see why. Obviously you haven't, and know nothing about our County Dems or their endorsement process. Ellen Corbett is almost a sure thing.

This isn't the Republican party which has a top down structure. This is the County Democratic Party who has a bottom up structure run by the grassroots activists. Pelosi isn't in Alameda County and hasn't the final say.

Ellen Corbett gets their endorsement and their activists who man the phones and walk the precincts. She wins and my family will have voted for her for Congress as we have for Senator.

I live in the District and almost everyone I know is supporting Ellen Corbett. All you have to do is read the Citizen to see how many times Swalwell has screwed up and how many mistakes he has made in such a short period of time.

He lucked out by running against a bigger screwup in 2012, but he will lose to the experienced pro who actually has a heart and cares for the rest of us who aren't in Swalwell's income bracket. Please vote Ellen Corbett in 2014.

The Swalwell supporter who keeps posting is not mainstream. No moderate talks like that. You're one of the Tea Baggers that Swalwell courted to get elected. You are not representative of the district.

Swalwell came in and the right time, right place and made a deal with you Tea Baggers. Now you have to deal with Corbett who's has a long history of supporting the middle and lower class. And she knows how to campaign. The super majority who are compassionate with all their neighbors and want to see an effective person represent them will vote for Corbett.

The pro-Swallwell troll lives in his own fantasy land. Eric had a poll done last year and according to political insiders he didn't release it because it showed him losing to Ellen Corbett. I know most of my neighborhood will vote for Ellen because we think she cares more for the middle class and less fortunate. She would never vote for cutting off benefits for 1.4 million Americans who are struggling to make ends meet like Swallwell did.

I admit I screwed up and voted for Swalwell in 2012 because I didn't like Stark. I won't make that mistake again. It's Ellen Corbett for me in 2014 because she is just more professional and competent.

What's a matter Swalwell troll can't come up with your own thoughts?

Please excuse me as I have lost my mind. I don't do well scribbling in the wee small hours of the morning. For the last time, what I mean to say is the following:

I admit I screwed up and voted for Stark in 2012 because I didn't like Swalwell. I won't make that mistake again. It's Eric Swalwell for me in 2014 because he is just so much more professional and competent.

I stand by this statement.

I stand by this statement- Swalwell troll or staffer or both. I hope you are posting on your own time and not the taxpayer's dime.

According to a Jan.15th Citizen article Swalwell's taking a poll on weather he should extend unemployment benefits to 1.3 million Americans.

Swalwell just do the right thing! You don't need a poll.

I recently watched a movie about a boy who was on a ship that started to sink. Luckily for him, there was a lifeboat he could scramble onto; otherwise, he would have drowned. But what do you do when you’re on a sinking ship—and there is no lifeboat?

Unemployment insurance benefits have been a lifeboat for millions of families in an economy that often feels like it’s sinking fast. Rather than extend these benefits, House Republicans made the choice to jump ship and go on holiday break, letting these vital benefits expire for our neighbors, friends and family members who have lost their jobs. We can’t just watch from afar while fellow Americans struggle to stay afloat. We have to get them that lifeboat.

Check the box and tell Swalwell to extend unemployment benefits.

I’ve been unemployed. And I can tell you from experience, the bills don’t stop just because you’re not getting a regular paycheck. These benefits make sure job seekers can keep the lights on and, just like a lifeboat, keep them afloat until they find employment.

Our job market still is bearing the weight of the Wall Street-induced financial meltdown. We’ve seen workers losing their jobs across the board—from health care and education to construction and government—through no fault of their own. These are the men and women who make America work and now they’re drowning. Shouldn’t we give them that lifeboat?
