Down Ballot: May 19, 2014, 15 days from Election Day

CONGRESS DISTRICT 15 A second television ad from Rep. Eric Swalwell hit the airwaves featuring a game board evoking Monopoly and Wheel of Fortune. The spot claims his opponent, State Senate Majority Leader Ellen Corbett, missed over 900 votes while in office. The statistic appears true, but neglects to mention any time frame or the total votes Corbett may have cast. Corbett told the Bay Area News Group she has voted on over 43, 000 items during her 14 years in the State Legislature. That would calculate to just over one percent. Nonetheless, Swalwell adds, “I approve this message because I know being your representatives is a full-time job.”…Meanwhile, Corbett is employing a strategy similar to two years ago when Pete Stark sent a mailer asserting Swalwell was a closet member of the Tea Party. In a mailer last week, Corbett takes on a clearer line of attack effectively questioning whether Swalwell is liberal enough for the district based upon his votes in Congress.

CONGRESS DISTRICT 17 Ro Khanna has a new television ad relying heavily on recent stories from the San Jose Mercury News. The 30-second ad also takes swipes at Rep. Mike Honda for ducking debates…The same paper quoted a university professor over the weekend who believes the two Republicans in the race, Vanila Singh and Joel Vanlandingham, are not gaining traction among voters…Vanlandingham, an entertaining tweeter, indeed, took to the social media site slamming Singh. Responding to a 45 day old tweet sent by Singh claiming secret ties between Khanna and Vanlandingham, he shot back saying she had no political views back in mid-December, one day before registering as a Republican. “The Party went shopping,” tweeted Vanlandingham…Meanwhile, Singh was brushing up on her tech credentials in the Indian American business community last weekend at the TiEcon show at the Santa Clara Convention Center. Peggy Moore, who was President Obama’s political director for his campaign in California two years ago, spoke at a Get Out The Vote rally on Saturday for Honda in Newark.

STATE SENATE DISTRICT 10 Mary Hayashi and Bob Wieckowski continue their attacks, both on the web and the more traditional method, in your mailbox. Republican wildcard Peter Kuo, after assuming the role of the adult in the room last week when he called for the negative attacks to cease, is finally getting attention from the corporate media. A columnist from the San Francisco Chronicle opined he was the best candidate in the field. Meanwhile, candidates Roman Reed and Audie Bock have been laying low.

ASSEMBLY DISTRICT 16 Another Republican wildcard, Catherine Baker, continues to hammer away at a claim she is actually the first candidate to call for a ban on BART strikes. Steve Glazer may have been protesting at BART stations last year during the long labor dispute, but Baker says she’s the only one who backed specific legislation in Sacramento…On Sunday, Glazer was attempting to harvest votes at the Livermore farmers’ market…Like Ro Khanna in CA17, Glazer is taking the novel approach of highlighting his opponent’s negative mailers against him on his own campaign website, then rebutting them…If you drive from Oakland to the Park Street Bridge heading to Alameda, you might notice something strange on the side of the road. It’s a billboard for Glazer, but the 16th District is nowhere near that part of town. However, if you travel for work from the 16th District's boundaries to take the ferry to San Francisco, it’s on the way.

ASSEMBLY 15 Democrat Clarence Hunt is gambling a few early morning television spots will push him into the top two. The 30-second spot was seen Monday morning on KTVU with a brief overview of his candidacy.

ALERT! Today is the last day to register for the June 3 primary. Go online at www.acgov.org/rov.

My family and I already voted for Swalwell, too liberal for my taste, and Steve Glazer.

We've done our due diligence!

Looks like we might of cancelled each other out although I do have a large family of eligible voters. We voted for Ellen Corbett because Swalwell lies too much as pointed out by the EBCitizen.

We also voted for Tim Sbranti and here's why! Tim is the people's choice and Glazer is the corporate choice.

Steve Glazer is a political consultant who was paid hundreds of thousands of dollars by a corporate interest group funded by tobacco companies, oil companies, real estate developers, pharmaceutical and insurance companies. If elected to to the state legislature Glazer would work to pass laws that benefit them and rubber stamp their issues.

Tim Sbranti in contrast, is a statewide leader in education, a classroom teacher and effective local leader. Under his fiscal leadership he transformed Dublin from a city suffering from serious budget deficits into a city with a budget surplus, without sacrificing major cuts to community services.

5:03 What's that big U tattooed on Sbranti's forehead?

That won't affect his objectivity on votes will it?

5:03. Sbranti is endorsed by Swalwell. Swalwell is endorsed by Sbranti. They are one in the same. You should love them both, or vote against both.

Don't tell lies. The ONLY reason Eric tacitly endorsed Branti is because the old guy was his teacher in high school. That's it. He did it as an act of charity--nothing more.

In fact, he really likes and identifies with Steve Glazer and if he lived in that district he would vote for Steve in a heartbeat!

Boy that big-time union whore at 5:03 lies like there is no tomorrow.

Bottom line: don't shit in your pants too much when ol' Branti falls flat on his larded ass and is thrown to the curb on June 6. Bitch will be saluting our next assemblyman clean STEVE GLAZER 2014!

6:55. Please make sure you vote on June 6.

Swalwell's lies when he ran against Stark were never reported in the mainstream press(except for the Citizen) and most of us overlooked them because we didn't like Stark, including me. This is a different race against Ellen Corbett who is a well liked, experienced, capable and trusted woman. My wife and I voted for Eric last time but this time will vote for Ellen. His lies have caught up with our Congressman. We can't stand someone who says one thing and does another on so many different occasions.

Looks like the anti-union sexist troll is posting for the corporate lap dog Glazer again. This doesn't make him sound like a breath of fresh air. Glazer sounds like a dirty politician.

Since you have three quarters of the posts on this topic, try not to cry when Tim Sbranti beats your corporate shill like a drum.

Well, there's another reason Eric endorsed Sbranti--he wasn't just his high school teacher, he helped him win his seat on the Dublin city council, and then supported him in his run for Congress from the beginning--which was pretty gutsy considering the fact that the local party opposed Swalwell and he was gunning for higher office. Without Sbranti's support, Swalwell would still be a low-ranking district attorney, puttering away on the planning commision, hoping some day to be a state assemblymember. So he doesn't just respect the guy--he owes him BIGTIME.

I can't support novices who have no idea what they are doing and are in over their head either. That's why I won't be voting for Glazer who has done nothing for the less fortunate, lies to the voters, takes over a million dollars from corporate interests in independent expenditures and only cares about one issue. He has nothing to offer!

I'll be voting for the experienced and thoughtful Tim Sbranti who has accomplished many things as a teacher and Mayor of Dublin that have helped the middle and lower class. There are so many things more important than the antiunion sexist troll's hatred of unions. Public safety is one of them and that's why Tim is supported by Police and Fire, Nurses and Environmental groups.

My family and I just voted for Steve Glazer since he isn't a puppet of the entrenched special interests. He's definitely not controlled by big business. After all of the accusations and counter-accusations, we did our homework. He is the best hope of having an independent-minded Democrat in Sacramento and who has an excellent repoire with Jerry Brown. The man knows how to say 'NO' to the unions, which want to bankrupt California and have done a pretty good job so far!

Corbett is going to lose BIG TIME!! Accept this reality Tavares.

Corbett chances are really quite good

Thank you, CONGRESSMAN ERIC SWALWELL 2014!

Thank you Ellen Corbett, who will be our next Congresswoman, because our current congressman has told lie, after lie after lie, after lie, after lie, etc.

For Alameda and Contra Costa counties, it's

CONGRESSMAN ERIC SWALWELL 2014!

Practice saying CONGRESSWOMAN ELLEN CORBETT.

Practice saying "Kicked the bitch back to the gutter where she belongs!"

Time for baking some cookies!

Tired of Swalwell's lies and sexist followers------voted for Ellen Corbett.

Can't stand 'that woman's' lies and whorrible followers---voted for CONGRESSMAN ERIC SWALWELL 2014!

My senior citizen home just voted en masse for INCUMBENT CONGRESSMAN ERIC SWALWELL 2014!

Well I see 8:49 lies as much as our current congressman, and that's why Ellen Corbett will win the primary. I'm a senior and I can assure you Ellen will get most of the Senior Vote.
