STATE SENATE | DISTRICT 7 | A new campaign commercial from Seventh State Senate District candidate Susan Bonilla features cameos from reitred Rep. George Miller and Contra Costa District Attorney Mark Peterson. It also hints that Bonilla’s campaign views her opponent, Orinda Mayor Steve Glazer, also a Democrat, and his centrist platform as a great strength.
“Susan Bonilla is true to her word and her actions and that’s why Democrats and Republican, local businesses, law enforcement…and thousands more support Susan Bonilla,” says the ad, with Miller delivering the word “Democrat” and Peterson uttering “Republican.”
Although the Seventh District is hardly a bastion of progressive thought, the play for moderate Repubicans is quite a jarring coalition for the large number of volunteers from labor unions currently stumping for Bonilla.
The commercial debuts today and will run through the May 19 special election.
What hasn't been pointed out so far is that Glazer was almost totally funded by anti-consumer groups. The middle and lower class lost when he won. Our family doesn't belong to a union but I agree that 2016 will bring out more anti-Glazer voters and will probably spell his doom. Usually more progressive candidates win in presidential years. 23% voting in this election will be doubled or tripled in 2016. Those voters will represent the people.

I had already decided to vote for Mr. Glazer since he's the only clean 'politician' in this race. My neighbor then reminded me that Second Place Sue still has time left on her assembly term. She's greedy. She's decided that she wants the tax payers to spend for yet ANOTHER special election, which is exactly what would happen if she jumped boats to the senate. Let her finish her term and then–G-d forbid–go back to the private sector and work for a living. We don't need yet another special election at tax payer expense. My neighbor is right that Steve Glazer is the best choice in the election. A vote for Steve is a vote against spending for a special election.
I am convinced. Steve Glazer is definitely the People's Choice and great for the tax payers, too!!!

Steve Glazer for 7th District State Senate Proven Environmentalist, More Accessible–The Independent
The Independent
April 23, 2015
By Janet Armantrout
Voters in the State Senate 7th District have a choice between two Democrats on May 19. Susan Bonilla and Steve Glazer are on the ballot to replace Mark DeSaulnier, who was elected to Congress last November.
Bonilla and Glazer were the top two finishers in the March 17 primary.
With little to separate them on the issues, independent political action committees have launched a barrage of nasty flyers in support of and opposition to one or the other candidate. Both have big spenders behind them. Glazer is backed by Bill Bloomfield, JobsPAC (California Chamber of Commerce PAC) and the California Charter Schools Association; Bonilla is heavily favored by unions.
Their associations with such groups have raised questions about their ability to maintain an objective viewpoint on issues impacting the funders of their political campaigns.
The Independent interviewed each separately. Both support more storage for water and are against the two tunnel system proposed by Gov. Brown to deliver water from the Delta. They see the need to improve traffic along the I-580 corridor by bringing BART to Livermore. Each expressed the necessity of a strong educational system to keep the economy growing and to lift people out of poverty.
Glazer has a demonstrated involvement with environmental issues, with a long history of working with such organizations as Save the Bay. On behalf of the Trust for Public Land, he worked on measures in more than 25 states to protect clean water and thousands of acres of open space. He has said that he supports minimizing regulations that don't diminish health and safety, but have a negative impact on business. As technology changes, environmental laws have to keep up.
He supports laws enacted to reduce carbon emissions, which he calls an important method of reducing greenhouse gases. It is a stand that is contrary to that taken by the Chamber of Commerce, and one we support.
His desire to prevent BART strikes has drawn the ire of unions. He notes that New York, Chicago, Massachusetts, and San Francisco all restrict transit strikes. We believe his tone is too strident when he talks about the issue. However, he says that he still believes in the collective bargaining process.
We do agree with his stand on moving forward with pension reform, which he believes is necessary to ensure funds are available when workers retire. We don't agree with his lack of support for closing the business tax loophole in Proposition 13.
Glazer strongly backs adding more charter schools, a move we believe would weaken regular public schools.
Bonilla mentioned favoring a sunset clause for environmental laws, which would limit how long they are in effect. She says that would provide an opportunity to review their value. A sunset clause could lead to a loss of important provisions. While she votes favorably on most environmental issues, she has no record of active involvement.
Bonilla has been strong on child care, noting that without the availability of affordable care for their children, many women would not be able to work.
Because of her backing by unions, Bonilla has been accused of being too in tune with unions to take on pension reform or changes in teacher tenure.
With both of them coming from the northern portion of the district, accessibility is of concern. Glazer appears more willing to involve himself in local issues. Bonilla has shown little interest, focusing more on topics where she lives than the Tri-Valley.
Although we don't support his views on some important issues, we are recommending Steve Glazer for the State Senate 7th District mainly because of his proven record on behalf of the environment and his willingness to engage in Tri-Valley issues.

Glazer is not clean and he is not the people's choice. He is the dirtiest as he has taken twice as much independent expenditure money than Susan Bonilla, and his has come from corrupt corporate billionaire's who are trying to destroy working families and the middle class in this country.
It’s the most pressing economic challenge of our time. While the economy has grown overall during the last 35 years, the average worker is still looking at the same slim paycheck. It’s called wage stagnation, and it’s the driving force behind income inequality. Since 1979, productivity — the nation’s output of goods and services per hour worked — grew by 64 percent. Meanwhile, the inflation-adjusted hourly wage of the typical worker rose by just 6 percent.
But in the last few decades we have seen unprecedented attacks on collective bargaining rights. The erosion of collective bargaining is the single largest factor behind the stagnation of middle-class wages. As union membership rates declined, the share of income earned by middle-class households declined, too. This trend explains one-third of the gap between rich and poor men, and one-fifth of the gap among women.
Big business has been cracking down on the unions in an effort to consolidate their power over workers and increase their profits. We are seeing more and more coercive and punitive tactics designed to intensely monitor and punish union activity, including plant closing threats and actual plant closings, terminations, harassment, disciplinary actions, surveillance, and altering benefits and working conditions.
Billionaires and CEOs have come together to push legislation that would weaken and destroy collective bargaining. That's why they are supporting Glazer who has worked for them and that's why those of us who want to save the middle class are voting for Susan Bonilla.

Glazer is not the people's choice, but he is the millionaire's choice. The growing economic gap in America, shows that “millionaires and billionaires” run a rigged system that benefits the wealthy at the expense of huge numbers of working-class and poor citizens.
Ninety-nine percent of all new income generated in this country is going to the top one percent. That type of economics is not only immoral, it's not only wrong, it is unsustainable.
Most of us are vehemently opposed to recently implemented laws that relaxed campaign finance rules, which allows millionaire and billionaire donors to buy candidates of their choosing, like what is happening in this race. Glazer is bought and paid by corporate PACS and millionaire independent expenditures.
That's why we think Susan Bonilla deserves our vote May19th. Susan is a moderate who cares about the 99% of us who aren't millionaires and billionaires or is a consultant to the 1% like Glazer is. Although her campaign has been outspent about 2-1 by her opponents, most of us hope that Susan will be victorious.

Dear Voter,
Each year brings new challenges to those serving in the state Legislature. Issues are examined, votes are taken, and soon today’s concerns have been replaced by newer ones. If elected to State Senate, as your representative, I won’t always know the next big issue on the horizon. But as my constituents, you will always know the principles by which I conduct your business in Sacramento.
This framework of Ten Governing Principles lays out the values I will use when I evaluate budget and policy initiatives. You’ll see in it such lifelong priorities as education and the environment, as well as the need for priority setting, efficiency and bi-partisanship. I hope it helps you understand how I view the role of Senator and what you can expect from me if I’m selected to undertake this cherished responsibility.
My Ten Governing Principles:
1. Represent the people of our Senate district, not political parties or special interests.
2. Maintain a balanced budget to allow government to help people, and people to have confidence in government.
3. Pursue bi-partisan decisions. They are always better and longer lasting.
4. Emphasize education as the gateway to opportunity and prosperity.
5. Work hard to set priorities and hold the line on taxes.
6. Incorporate environmental protection as a part of every decision.
7. Empower local decision-making rather than state mandates. It is more responsive and trustworthy.
8. Advance accountability and efficiency with every government program.
9. Promote civility and respect for all people and perspectives.
10. Conduct myself always with honesty and integrity.
Please join the conversation. I want to know what you think.
Sincerely,
Steve Glazer

Ordinary folks are suffering. The middle class is shrinking. We’re having trouble sending our kids to college and paying our bills, to say nothing of our inability to save for retirement.
All of this is true, but coming from the very people who caused this middle-class meltdown, the words are meaningless.
It’s easy for them to say that working families matter. And some of them can even muster the courage to finally acknowledge the obvious: Families’ incomes have fallen while corporate profits have reached astronomical heights. The economy has grown since 1980, but average working people haven’t benefited much. In fact, the only people whose incomes have gone up belong to a very exclusive club – the richest 1 percent.
But what the extremist politicians won’t say — at least not on camera — is that their own union-busting policies created the very problems they suddenly see.
In earlier decades, when wages rose in tandem with economic growth, it was largely because the labor movement was robust enough to help people get into — and stay in — the middle class. Through the power of working people coming together in unions and bargaining collectively, unchecked corporate wealth was reined-in and the folks who helped to create that wealth could share in it.
But fewer people are represented by unions today than 100 years ago. That means workers’ voices are weaker and bosses hold most of the cards. This imbalance means they can keep wages artificially low, be stingy with benefits and take advantage of those who work for them. The extremists don’t want us to have a say in our future; they have rigged the game for their benefit and ordinary Americans are suffering the consequences.
We know that if given the option, more people would join unions because they recognize there is strength in solidarity. But the extremist politicians — and the super-wealthy Americans and corporations that support them — recognize this strength, too. So they’ve spent the last several years passing laws in state after state that weaken unions and make it harder for people to join them. It doesn’t matter how these laws are labeled, they all are intended to do one thing: destroy the labor movement.
We don't belong to a union, but we belong to the lower middle class and that is why we will vote for Susan Bonilla. We are tired of the 1% conservative greedy corporations and their hacks like Glazer destroying the middle class.

I am not sure why the Glazer troll keeps posting the same post over and over. It does not persuade anyone in the District who knows Glazer is a Liar. I have gotten about 30 mailers from the ultra conservative Chamber PAC and the out of town Southern Calif. billionaire.
Why are these out of towners pouring money into the Glazer campaign? Could it be that he wants to give Tax breaks to the rich instead of funding our schools? Could it be that he opposes creating good middle class jobs with good benefits? Could it be that he wants to send our water South? could it be that he opposes closing the tax loophole in prop 13 that benefits only the mega corporations?
My friends and I support Susan Bonilla because she supports creating good middle class jobs which help improve local roads, bridges and transportation. Susan is a former teacher who supports funding for local schools by closing the tax loopholes for the corporate elite. She opposes the mega-loophole in prop 13 that only helps the billionaire businessman. Susan is definitely the middle class people's choice!

3:25 is just the foul-mouthed sexist Glazer troll again who thinks calling people names is helping his candidate. What a joke he is. I guess he thinks it's ok to take twice as much money from corporate conservative PAC's funded by out of town millionaires and oil, tobacco, and pharmaceutical companies makes his candidate the people's choice. How wrong he is! Will give him the Tea Party conservatives, but Susan Bonilla is the working middle class families choice which in the rest of our minds makes Susan the people's choice.

For us it's CLEAN STEVE GLAZER all the way. He's the PEOPLE'S CHOICE!

Well now the Glazer troll is agreeing with himself. Surprise, surprise.
His only experience in elected office is as Orinda Councilman where he raised taxes, and consultant to the Gov. because they want to send more of our No. Ca. drinking water South. Oh, and consultant to the ultra-conservative JobsPac which gets most of their money from big oil, gas, tobacco and pharmaceutical companies. Yea, he and they really care about us working people.
I was set to vote for him until I did more reading and saw how corrupt he was. Now, my neighbors and I are full steam ahead for the not perfect, but cleaner Assembly woman Susan Bonilla who actually cares for us instead of mega-corporations.

Definitely agree with 8:57. I had no idea that this would put us right back with paying for yet another special election. Another one right after this one? Come on. This is really a no-brainer. Steve is the most experienced and best qualified candidate for the senate. It is a natural fit for him and this district.
I was all set to vote for her, but now I am definitely full-steam ahead for Steve Glazer. He's just the best choice all around.

Glazer is NOT CLEAN nor is he the People's Choice. He has received twice as much graft and corruption as his opponent. This corruption comes in the form of independent expenditures from Jobs PAC which gets most of it's money from huge pharmaceutical, big oil and big tobacco. He also has received large amounts from the Charter Schools Pac and millions from a Southern California business man so he will send our water south and continue Large Tax breaks for the mega corporations. He's about as “DIRTY” as corporate money can buy. Shame on Glazer who has been a consultant for Jobs PAC.
Susan Bonilla will get this families' votes when we get our ballots because she has done so much to help the middle class in our District as Assemblywoman while Glazer raised middle class taxes while Councilman in Orinda. Susan also does not want to send our drinking water south like he does. Susan is definitely cleaner and more trustworthy. Therefore she is the People's Choice. You go girl.

I had already decided to vote for Mr. Glazer since he's the only clean 'politician' in this race. My neighbor then reminded me that Second Place Sue still has time left on her assembly term. She's greedy. She's decided that she want the tax payers to spend for yet ANOTHER special election, which is exactly what would happen if she jumped boats to the senate. Let her finish her term and then–G-d forbid–go back to the public sector and work for a living. We don't need yet another special election at tax payer expense. My neighbor is right that Steve Glazer is the best choice in the election. A vote for Steve is a vote against spending for a special election.
I am convinced. Steve Glazer is definitely the People's Choice and great for the tax payers, too!!!

Hey, Glazer looks like he's a corrupt sleaze. I voted for him because I'm kind of conservative, but i'll be voting for Susan Bonilla, when I get my ballot next week by absentee. She's no angel, but compared to him she looks good to me. Corporations shouldn't be getting Tax breaks and our drinking water shouldn't be going South.

Tell it like it is anon 1:59. That could also explain why Bill Bloomfield, a wealthy businessman from Southern California, has poured millions into this race in favor of Glazer and opposing Susan Bonilla. The less taxes corporations pay, the more we less fortunate have to pay. Susan Bonilla looks great in comparison.
P.S. As Orinda Councilman Glazer supported tax increases for his constituents.

In regards to the anti working family sexist at 12:40 and 11:50 above:
I have to agree with anon 12:20 above. Susan Bonilla has pushed for consumer and middle class family issues in the Assembly.
In contrast, this last week I received more Glazer mailers from JobsPac (about two dozen so far). JobsPac is the ultra conservative front for the California Chamber of Commerce which gets most of their money from big Tobacco, big Pharmaceutical and big Oil Companies because they want to keep their corporate tax exemptions. Glazer has been a consultant for the Chamber. Some moderate, NOT.
In my neighborhood Susan Bonilla is the people's choice!

Glazer has got double the independent expenditure money than the people's choice and middle class champion Susan Bonilla. He is twice as corrupt, wants to send our drinking water South, and most of his millions in independent expenditures have come from corporate billionaires outside of Northern Calif. Glazer is a despicable and duplicitous councilman from Orinda who speaks out of both sides of his conservative mouth.
Glazer got so much corrupt money (independent expenditures) from the Ca. Chamber of Commerce and the So. Ca. conservative multi-billionaire businessman because they want our water to go south thru the twin tunnels Brown is proposing. Most of us have seen the light and will vote for Susan Bonilla because we are against the twin canals stealing our water and sending it to Southern California.

Tobacco Smear Campaign
Facts About The Tobacco Smear Campaign
Against Steve Glazer
A campaign committee promoting the election of Assemblywoman Susan Bonilla is running a tobacco smear campaign against Steve Glazer which leading newspapers have branded as “deceptive”[i], “childish”, [ii] “misleading”[iii] and “deceitful”. [iv]
These are the facts:
Steve has never worked for a tobacco company.
Steve has never taken a campaign donation from a tobacco company.
As a City Councilmember and Mayor, Steve voted for tougher requirements on tobacco sales and advertising.
The work Steve did for the California Chamber of Commerce – for which he is being attacked – was to elect members to the State Assembly who have actually fought for tougher laws on tobacco. Richard Bloom and Marc Levin, both first elected to the State Assembly in 2012, are known as anti-tobacco legislators. Assemblymember Bloom has worked to ban smoking on public beaches and Assemblymember Levine supports a ban on smoking in multi-family dwellings. Neither have taken campaign contributions from tobacco companies.
As Mayor of Orinda, Steve has recently proposed even tougher tobacco control laws.
Steve has issued a public statement calling tobacco “addictive” and “deadly.” To read the statement, please click here
To date, the following entities have contributed to the committee running the smear campaign [v]:
California State Council of Service Employees Political Committee $185,000
Service Employees International Union Local 1021 Candidate PAC $75,000
Service Employees International Union Local 1000 Candidate PAC $75,000
PACE of California School Employees Association $75,000

Faculty for Our University’s Future, a Committee sponsored by the CA Faculty Association $50,000
American Federation of State, County & Municipal Employees, AFL-CIO $49,784
California Teachers Association Independent Expenditure Committee $35,000
State Building and Construction Trades Council of California PAC $35,000

Management & Professional Employee Association MAPA PAC- AFSCME Local 1001 $5,000
American Federation of State, County & Municipal Employees-Council 57 PAC: $5,000
These same entities have also made substantial contributions to Susan Bonilla’s campaign.

Glazer and Brown and the corporate PACS want Glazer to win because they want a lot more of our drinking water. Thanks for nothing Glazer and the sexist anti union troll who keeps blogging for him.

Sounds to me like the anti-union, anti middle class sexist at 4:51 is very worried his candidate will lose the run off. Me thinks he protests to much, in vulgar language at that. Glazer is a conservative corporate mouthpiece and no moderate. Susan Bonilla, with any type of a turnout over 25%, should win. Susan is the moderate and progressive. Practice saying Senator Susan Bonilla who has not been bought and paid for by corporate big businessmen from out of town like your candidate.

Glazer isn't Centrist. He's Duplicitous. Glazer says whatever the polls tell him to say. He thinks the voters are stupid and the Republicans will believe he's anti-tax, when he's put millions of taxes on the property and sales taxes of Orinda residents…they will believe he is anti-double tunnels, when it's very clear that he says he's against as written and his East Bay Leadership Council debate response included saying we needed to take care of the water needs of the whole state but they had to pay (shorthand for Double Tunnels). Glazer has a thousand bridges to sell you. If you want to take more Northern California water (like Brown does) to Southern California through two 35 million dollar tunnels then Glazer is your man. If you want to keep more of our precious water from going South then vote for Susan Bonilla. That's what my neighbors and I plan to do.

steveglazer1If you are a voter in Walnut Creek or Concord, San Ramon, Livermore or Pleasanton, you might not want to support Democrat Steve Glazer for state Senate. Maybe you support the right of transit workers to strike, or you don’t want to reform teacher tenure or government pensions. Maybe you just want to support the candidate who will always vote labor’s position on every issue.
Those are valid reasons to oppose Glazer, Orinda mayor and Gov. Jerry Brown’s longtime political strategist, and to support Assemblywoman Susan Bonilla, the other Democrat in the May 19 run-off election in Senate District 7.
What, however, are utterly fabricated, hogwash “reasons” to do so are that Glazer has “sold out” to big tobacco, “sold out” on women’s rights or that he “says one thing and does another” – all lies being told to smear Glazer by a group of labor unions determined to punish him for being an independent Democrat.
Sludge Bucket Charges The principal (fabricated) charges against Glazer are based on the fact that he – like a number of other Democratic consultants – worked for the California Chamber of Commerce in support of business-friendly Democrats that ran in primaries against union-backed Democrats.
susanbonillaGlazer hasn’t taken money from tobacco companies; they did contribute to the Chamber. Glazer has always been vehemently pro-choice on abortion and a supporter of women’s rights; some of the candidates the Chamber has backed aren’t. And, sin of sins, he’s received financial support from individuals and organizations that prefer him as a business-friendly Democrat to candidates seen as in the pocket of labor unions.
Moreover, if being backed by “special interests” is the charge – and Glazer benefited from nearly $600,000 in spending from various interests — Bonilla has a lot to answer for, too. In addition to nearly $240,000 in direct support from labor unions (not to mention independent expenditures), she’s pulled in more than $276,000 from business and corporate interests including the healthcare, big pharma, oil and gas, development and gambling industries.
Glazer has pledged to accept no gifts, meals or beverages from lobbyists; to disclose his answers to any special interests questionnaires; not to pay family members from campaigns contributions; to refuse tax-free per diem expenses or Senate work on weekends and holidays, and to eschew campaign contributions in the final 60 days of the legislative session.
That would make him one of the squeakiest clean legislators in Sacramento. But he would not necessarily vote with the teachers, prison guards or public employees on every measure that comes before the Legislature. If that’s the kind of Democrat you want, Glazer is not your guy.
Insiders and Outsiders For a long time in California, there have been two kinds of Democrats: those who labor unions can count on for support on any issue; and those who don’t vote the union line every time. Most insider Democrats in Sacramento, sadly, are captives of Big Labor. Most outside Democrats in California support labor most, but not all, of the time.
Merit pay for teachers, limits on pay and retirement benefits for prison guards, restrictions on public transportation employees’ right to strike and controlled growth policies limiting new construction in cities and counties are just a few issues where a strong, independent Democrat might have principled differences with unions representing various workers.
Steve Glazer is a lifelong progressive, pro-choice, pro-environment, pro-working class, Jerry Brown Democrat. The campaign to brand him as a traitor to Democratic values is beyond scurrilous.

Congressman Eric Swallwell, a moderate Dem., and Greg Ahern (head of the Alameda County Sheriffs Dept.), a moderate Republican, have both endorsed Susan Bonilla too. The last election had a 23% turn out. If the voters reach even close to 28% in this race, Susan should win.

Went to a phone bank for Susan Bonilla last night and can verify she is picking up some Republican support, especially from women which kind of surprised me. Some said they voted for Glazer and Buchanan last time, but will now vote for Susan because they just view her positions as more in tune with moderation and their middle of the road principles. Some also mentioned they didn't want our Delta destroyed by sending our water south to the water wasters in Southern California as Glazer and Brown want to do. Hasn't this drought taught us anything!
