After endorsing Parker, Swalwell high-tailed to D.C. rather than face labor

Swalwelling: Rep. Eric Swalwell endorsed the
non-union-backed supervisorial candidate then
avoided labor before heading back to Washington.
Rep. Eric Swalwell's relationship with organized labor has always been a bit strained. After Swalwell made an abrupt and potentially pivotal decision two weeks ago to endorse Alameda County supervisorial candidate Bryan Parker over the incumbent Supervisor Nate Miley, the unions were more than peeved.

Swalwell's popularity in the congressional district that overlaps a portion of Miley's supervisorial district is very strong and could possibility upend Miley's re-election.

Of course, like most of the Alameda County Board of Supervisors, Miley has benefited over the years from strong union support and Swalwell's play puts the incumbent at risk.

But, according to union sources, it's Swalwell's non-response to the aftermath of his endorsement that is further irking labor leaders.

Brian Parker and Eric Swalwell
Swalwell, in fact, has gone to great length to avoid labor over the past few weeks starting just after the Parker endorsement was announced on April 27.

Two days later, Swalwell skipped one of the biggest local labor events of the year, the Alameda Labor Council's Unionist of the Year dinner in Oakland. Swalwell's deputy chief of staff Tim Sbranti was sent in place of Swalwell, and reportedly received an earful from labor leaders upset by Swalwell's endorsement ploy.

To rub salt into labor's wounds, Swalwell walked precincts with Parker the next day, Saturday morning in Castro Valley and Pleasanton. Shortly afterward, Swalwell bolted back to Washington, D.C. without confronting his partners in labor.

Go figure, our champion who slew a HUGE union slut like Fortney Stark actually stands up against the whores by backing a real moderate. Amazing!

Down with union sluts at all costs. Scum of the earth bottom dwellers will be put in their place and learn to work for their masters--the public! Next on the hit list: Dirty Dick Valley!!

It is truly hysterical that anyone, and especially organized labor, would back Nate Miley, since he was a major protector of Yusef Bey, in other words the scumbag who had a lot of the work at his businesses performed by young women he had kidnapped off the street and then for years held as his unpaid slaves.

However, and on the other hand, agues it was all OK since both Miley and Bey pretended they were liberals.

If these folks are pissed off at Swalwell then it means he did the right thing. They are only pissed off because he did not allow himself to be their puppet and endorse the person that they want him to. I call that leadership.

A true leader wouldn't high-tail it out of town without responding to concerns about his endorsement. But then again, a true leader would also recognize the important role labor unions play in fair employment. And no informed reader would hold Nate Miley responsible for the crimes of Yusef Bey.

Maybe he wasn't hightailing it. Maybe he just didn't want to waste his time.

I'm a Nate Miley union whore. I resemble the preceding remark!

Swalwell probably likes Parker's choice of footwear better than Miley's too.
